SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF MARTIN WOODS One sunny day I was born in the North of England, in Lancaster to be precise, very near to the beautiful Lake District. At school I developed a passion for photography, which I have to this day. I went to Blackpool School of Photography and then went on to study graphic design at Lancaster School of Art. So, thinking myself the complete photographer, I moved to the 'big smoke' of London, to become a 'first- ladder-rung' assistant. I can't say I enjoyed London very much, which is probably why, after a couple of years, I rushed off to South Africa. There I worked as a photographer in Johannesburg, shooting just about everything from Amstel Beer to Homes and Gardens magazine. It was a great time but Paris was tugging at my sleeve so that's where I found myself next. In Paris I was mainly shooting cosmetics but more important it's where I met my lovely wife Marina and we were married there in the springtime.
Almost by chance, Studio Baggelaar offered me a job in Amsterdam, so after 4 years of Paris the newly weds emigrated to Amsterdam and decided to stay. Amsterdam worked just fine, bought a house, made babies (Sara and Adrian) and found time for my other great passions in life: fishing, scuba diving, marathon running and walking in the mountains (outside Holland!). I started my own studio in the center of Amsterdam, specialising in studio stills, food, drinks and consumer products in general. The studio, in the Falckstraat, was built in 1900 as a coach house and has huge art-nouveau teak-wood doors; coaches and cars can still be driven in. I started working digitally in 1997 and now shoot and manipulate all my images digitally. The studio is fully equipped with diverse types of lighting, HMI, Flash, Tungsten and high-end computers and cameras. There is also a fully equipped kitchen in the studio for culinary photography. My clients in recent years include Heineken, Philips, Albert Heijn, Super de Boer, Fortis Bank, ING Bank, Delta Lloyd, Winston, Tom Tom, Adidas, Shell and many others. |
